How to Choose the Perfect Sofa Size for Your Living Room

Measure the walkway first. You need about 75–90 cm of clear passage in front of the sofa, and about 40–45 cm between the sofa and the centre table. Fit those first, and whatever length is left over is your sofa — not the other way round.
As a rough guide, a three-seater runs about 6 to 7 feet, a two-seater about 4 to 5 feet, and a single about 3 feet. An L-corner will seat more people in the same floor area than a 3+2, because it uses the corner a straight sofa leaves empty.
Check the door before you order. A sofa that fits the living room but not the staircase turn is a common and expensive discovery. Built-to-order frames can be made in sections and assembled inside — say so at the drawing stage.
Seat depth matters more than length for comfort. A deeper seat suits lounging; a shallower one suits sitting upright and is easier for elders to rise from. Decide which the room is for.
Finally, sit on the foam before confirming. Firmness is a choice, and it is the one thing you cannot change later without re-upholstering.
